Research Interests

Chen is working in her master thesis project entitled "Isolation, phylogenetic analysis and bioactive screening of red sea sponge-associated actinobacteria". In this project, a variety of red sea sponges are collected, homogenized and cultured in three different kinds of media. Bacterium are isolated from these media based on morphology and further sequenced to analyze phylogenetic property. Bioactive screening of promising actinos is performed on various pathogens, include fungi, gram-negative and gram-possitive bacteria, and dengue virus.
