Research Interests

I am interested in population genetics of Arabian killifish (Aphanius dispar), which occupy small desert ponds (wadis) along the coast of the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia. Killifish are known for their ability to live in extreme environments, such as in high salinity, extreme temperatures, and low dissolved oxygen. The project I am working on uses Restriction-site Associated DNA sequencing (RAD-seq) to identify the population structure and gene flow between ponds. Additionally, we will be using the genetic data to investigate adaptations to survive in the local harsh conditions prevalent to each pond.
